Thursday, July 11, 1929, Washington, D. C.

We were supposed to get started at about eight fifteen this morning to go sight seeing. So Mrs. Berry woke us up at quarter to eight. After I had had breakfast I started reading Burning Beauty, a story in McCall’s by Temple Baily that I had always wanted to read. Before I knew it it was eleven thirty and Mom and Pop hadn’t come for us to take us sightseeing. At about twelve they called up and said that they had gone out to the doctors at Fort Washington instead. They came out to Clare’s a little bit later and had lunch with us. Right after lunch we dashed down to the white house and went thru the rooms that we could go thru. It was three when we got back to Clare’s. We got our suits and went out to Chevy Chase pool, Clare, Pop, June and I. We got back home a little after five. We passed some beautiful homes going out and in. The family left me at the Berry’s to dress. After I had dressed and while I was waiting for them to come back for me I read. We went to Col. Hickman’s for dinner (Anna & Lawrence, too). Later we went to the Congressional Country Club to dance. Back to Clare’s at one.
