Friday, July 19, 1929, New York City

This was a lovely morning. We spent most of it shopping, that’s why! We went down to Macy’s (the store where we stopped) by the subway. On the way down we stopped at the New York Public Library while Pop looked up the genealogy of the Starr family. I copied the coat of arms. Then we went on to the store. The rest of the morning I spent trying on dresses. Out of the many I choose three. One evening, one afternoon and one school dress. I had expected to only be allowed to get one. I had that chosen when Mom suggested I choose another. Then Pop suggested a third. For lunch we went to an automat. Our first. You put your nickels in the slot and get your food out of a little door. Then we went back to the hotel. At about two we got the car and started for Mont. Clare where we saw some more of Harry’s cousins. We also saw some of the beautiful houses. We had tea at Cousin Julia’s. We got back to the hotel at about seven thirty. Pop and Mom were tired but June and Harry and I went to the show. We saw “Bulldog Drummond” and liked it.
