What a clean afternoon. I have had not many rooms so I was
thru at 2:30. I washed 34 hankies, 5 pairs of stockings and my smock. On duty
tonight. I wonder what’s troubling George? I certainly have had a wonderful
time the past month even if I did have to work hard toward the last. George is
darling and it is so easy to have a good time with everybody up here.

and felt rotten but I won’t let it get me down. I talked to George ‘til he went
to bed at 9:30. At twenty to ten went to dance with Jean & Tom. Swell

August 28, 1931 - Friday
My cold seems to be better tonight. It has moved up to my
nose. We only had 15 rooms. But I was so tired from my cold, I didn’t finish
until four. George sat by fire with me and talked until 10:20.

August 27, 1931 - Thursday
What a sore throat I had this morning. I could hardly talk.
It’s fun to eat breakfast at the café with George. We had 19 rooms today. I got
five letters today and one from George & Dave. George helped me be on duty!
Love, George
George's letter home:
Dear Mom,
Here is a letter that is no doubt due. Things are just about
the same up here, although the nights are getting darn cold. There seems to be
no business at all around this place; us kids are the only ones who even eat around
here.
Darn if I know what to write about anymore. This place
doesn’t seem to afford much material for correspondence. I am enclosing some
pictures in this letter. The girl is Ann Powell of Manila and way points.
