This was quite a day. To begin with Helen came for me right after Sunday School and took me to see a cricket game. The first I’ve ever seen. We met Marney and took her. We met Allen Howell and Mr. Carpenter there. It was very very interesting and I enjoyed it too. I didn’t take me long to find out what it was all about either. It was England vs. Scotland. England won but it looked for a while as if Scotland would. We left there at about twelve and Marney brought us to my house and we invited Helen to lunch. Marney couldn’t stay. Soon after I got home Allen Howell called up and asked if he could take me to the movies tonight. During lunch we decided that I would take Helen to a Base Ball Game (which she had never seen). We talked until two thirty and then went to the ball park. It was fun explaining the game to her. She caught on quickly. The All Americans played the Manderins and won. Helen said she liked it. At six Allen came after me and we went to see “Two Lovers’. It was a very good movie and I enjoyed it thoroughly. We had supper at Tom’s. We had strawberries and cream. We left about 10:30.
Jane’s Notes: Two Lovers (1928) is a silent feature film directed by Fred Niblo, and produced by Samuel Goldwyn. The film was rereleased in the USA in 1928, with a synchronized soundtrack, after having been previously released as a silent film. Cast included Noah Beery and Ronald Coleman with Vilma Banky in the female lead. My guess is that Mom saw the silent version as I don’t gather they had talking pictures in Manila yet.
