Saturday night (Aug 26)
Dearest George,
Tonight “I’ve got a right to sing the blues, I’ve got a
right to feel lowdown.” I didn’t get a letter from you today. I’m not complaining.
I’m just telling you! Tomorrow is Sunday so I can’t get a letter then but if I
don’t get one Monday--------?, well I just better have one, or
else________? Don’t say anything, sit
down! I just spat on the floor. Yuh see I’m tough and I’m just laying down de
law. You’re on de spot so be sure you keep me in de know, or else----? And
don’t get fresh wit me because my hand ain’t steady on the trigger. Now see
that you deliver de goods everyday. I hope I put you straight, blond beetle!
There, that ought to stop you for a while, I mean keep you
going. George do you know what I did today? I made some crab apple jelly! Don’t
tell me I’m not domestic. I got the crab apples because I tho’t they were good
eating but they weren’t so I made jelly. Maybe it will surprise my Pop. What do
you think?
I went down to Broadway this morning and then went clear
downtown this afternoon. I have all our bills paid (I hope) and got enough yarn
to finish my afghan (I also hope).
Tonight I went to another show. I went with Imogene and June
to see Allison Skipworth in “A Lady’s Profession”. It was awfully good.
Darling, I do love you so much and I miss you terribly. Annie
