Note: Things are going to get a bit confusing here for awhile. Dates for George's trip to Chicago and dates in the diary don't correspond. I think that Ann wrote her diary on the wrong pages but I've had some difficulty sorting it all out. So bear with me through the end of August as it may seem as if things are jumping around a bit. You'll still get the thread of the story.
August 11, 1933
Dear Mom & Pop,
The temperature on the desert today was a mere 106 degrees in the shade, but we are enjoying ourselves in spite of it. Tonight we are in Napa, Idaho staying with some friends of the Herlk’s. All the comfort of home except my Mom & Pop aren’t here.
Tomorrow brings the West Yellowstone.
