George dearest,

A week from tomorrow night I will be leaving Portland only to return as a visitor for how long? O, darling, it makes me so sad to think about it. I’m afraid that my letters aren’t very gay because I get so blue in them. But as the time draws nearer my heart gets heavier and heavier. By the time we leave actually it will be heavy enough to drown me if I fell over board. During the day it isn’t so bad because there are things to distract me but at night I miss you so terribly. I guess I will have to cut the water works. It’s not getting me anywhere.

We got in on a lot of excitement this evening that we weren’t expecting. June and I were going down to see Mary Pickford in “Secrets” and we were taking Sleepy with us. June was talking to Ellen Jean so she asked her if she didn’t want to come along. So she said she would take us all in her car. We enjoyed the show very much. I wished that I had had your hand to squeeze. We got out of the show and went to get in the car and it had been stolen! The engine doesn’t lock and she hadn’t brought the lock key to lock the doors so some one helped themselves to the car. She called up her brother and he notified the police. I hope they get it back because heaven knows they can’t afford to get another.

This morning June and I went downtown to do her shopping. We got her a hat, purse, and shoes. She isn’t as easily satisfied as I am so we had lunch downtown and shopped until about two o’clock then I came home and wrote a letter to “Neom” and June went to Imogene’s. At four I went to a party for Jane Kaugler with Doro (don’t make a face, please). Jane invited both you and I to the wedding but I had to refuse for both of us because it is to be about September 5. Darling, if we only could go together! We never have been to a wedding together.

Joke of the day – We get a letter from “Mom” today with an extra fiver in it. June and I register elation. Next envelope I open is a bill for five fifty,  that I had forgotten – deep gloom sets in.

I love you, lover  Annie

Hello Dear:

I guess I have not written to you very often, but I know that Ann has and so you get the news that way.

Yesterday was Sunday and we had June and Ann over for the last time. I suppose, as I think I am leaving for Bend Wednesday morning and Ann and June are leaving the night of the 29th on the boat, at 9 PM and Dad will be back here and he will take them down. They have Sleepy with them. Mrs. Powell left on the train last Friday morning and Dad took her down also.

Yesterday after dinner we got into the car and went for a swim at Slawson. The girls surely are wonderful swimmers. June says their Dad is going to get an old motor and rig them up a motor boat to ride on the lake in, when they get to their new home. I shall miss Ann very much and I did not like to say goodbye to her. I am writing some recipes for her, that she requested. I guess she will try them on the family when they get settled and so dear if the family survives, why by the time she cooks for you, she will be an expert cook. Ann has a new gray suit and hat and shoes and gloves to match and of course looks like a million in them. Today they are getting June some new things.

Today is Grandpa’s birthday, 73 years. Hope you drop them a line once in a while and also Aunt Lid and Uncle Ralph. Their address is 4004 NE Laddington Ct. I am going to try and get Grandmother to come down with Dad when he comes back, and I will stay up there for two or three weeks and keep house and then Aunt Lid will go up and keep house and she will be with me the rest of the time.

It was so cold yesterday morning we had to have a furnace fire and today is very warm again.

I must close for this time. Mrs. Mader gave me an address of her cousin for you to call on and I lost the address, so will have to get it again.

Love and kisses, Mother

A Purple and Gold program of the convention arrived here today, perhaps you can get in touch with one there, or should I mail this one?
