February 9, 1932 - Tuesday

We go to the Chi Psi house tomorrow and the SAE house Thursday for a change. I am going to both. I studied two hours this morning and from 1 to 4:30 this afternoon. Then more tonight. I haven’t seen George for three days!!

George's letter home:

Hello Mom,

Coming up – coming up -, I made twenty five points this mid-term. That does not mean that I will make the same for final grades, but I see no reason why I shouldn’t do that well or even better. I am able to do it if I really try, and I am doing that little thing this term.

I am trying out a new system with myself this term or rather the remainder of this term. I am attempting to do all of my studying in the afternoon and in the early evening; that will leave me free to go to bed at a comparative early hour. It is just about time to take myself  in hand, for I have been keeping all kinds of crazy hours. The other night I went out and then came home and studied until four thirty in the morning. That will not do for anybody, and I certainly am no exception.

Your check came this morning and I am fast making it look sick. After all bills are paid, I shall have about three dollars left for spending money. That should be enough, however, for I am not a spendthrift. It is a darn good thing that I am able to spot gold-diggers a mile off.

Grady and I have just completed our monthly reports, and we made a profit of $184. I hope I will do as well as he had done in that office. It is wonderful experience, and it is also a great help in financial ways. After next year though, I don’t know just what we will do for my schooling. I may get an idea to quit this school, though; and go to law school in Portland. There is no reason why I should go here if I can obtain just as good an education in Portland.

Those things all work out by themselves, though; so there is no need to worry about them as yet. Give mine portly father a great big hug for me.

Love, Brother
