I was going to study all day today and I studied about half
an hour. I didn’t get up in time to study. I got three letters this noon, spent
part of the afternoon answering them. Then George came over. Went to G. Hopkins
recital tonight.
A letter from Ann to Mrs. Hibbard (her future mother-in-law).
Dear Mrs. Hibbard,
Your invitation to stay with you spring vacation was a
delightful surprise. I gladly accept your invitation. It was certainly kind of
you to ask me and I appreciate it. I enjoyed myself so much when I stayed with
you before. I know I shall again because everything is so pleasant at your
home.
We have been having the most perfect weather down here. It
certainly makes it hard to study. It’s hard to imagine sitting inside and
reading dry books when the weather is so perfect outside.
Weather seems to affect people’s dispositions some how. At
least it does mine. I feel so happy all the time and for no apparent reason.
Yesterday George and I went to an assembly about George Washington, a serious
affair, and giggled all thru it. I don’t believe I’ve laughed so much in my
life as I have since the beautiful weather started. The nice part about it is
that it’s not only sunny and dry but warm as well.
This week Friday I had expected some friends from Manila to
visit me but they didn’t arrive. They probably meant next Friday because they
didn’t say what date. I am certainly looking forward to their coming. They will
be the first people from home that have ever visited me in Eugene.
A week ago last Saturday we had our dance. It was a
beautiful dance, the decorations were so nice and we had good music. It was a
perfect night for a dance, too, because the weather had just started to get
nice.
Thank you again for asking me to stay with you. I get three
exams on Thursday but I don’t know when I will get to Portland but I will let
you know as soon as I find out.
Love, Ann
