January 5, 1932 - Tuesday

I didn’t think that I had any classes today so I slept until eleven. After lunch I finished all my unpacking and changed out my drawers. After dinner I was going to write but I visited instead. To bed at 12!

George's Letter Home:

Dear Mother,

We arrived safely, although my escort nearly put us in the ditch. He went to sleep and I just grabbed the wheel in time. After that, I drove the remaining way.

Anne (sic) was here when I arrived, and I spent the evening with her. It certainly seemed nice to be with her again. Last night we went to a show together; and I didn’t crawl into bed until twelve-thirty.

Yesterday we all registered and I find myself carrying eighteen hours. That is quite a load, but I can do it alright.

Stan Haberlach is my roommate. We have always got along nicely; so I am expecting a real pleasant term.

My house bill is $44.45, and that must be paid by the tenth. When you have time, you might send me some razor blades, clean-be-tween tooth brush fillers, and that material for my hair.

That is just about all, Mother; news hasn’t begun its flow yet.

Love, George
