January 26, 1932 - Tuesday

“Just another day wasted away.” I didn’t do a speck of studying today but I had such a good time. Went for a ride with George right after lunch. Got stuck in the mud. Got out and went to show. We practiced Trojan Women tonight.

George's letter home:

Dear Mom,

Saturday night, Anne (sic) and I went to the military ball at the Eugene Hotel. We were real fortunate to be invited, as it is one of the exclusive campus affairs of the year. We certainly enjoyed ourselves.

Sunday I went to hear the Eugene Men’s Glee Club sing at the Igloo. I just sat there enraptured; they were so fine. There was a Mr. Young who did quite a few solos, and I have never heard a tenor voice like his before. The audience would hardly let him leave.

Aside from that, there has not been much doing around this place. I paid my fees and received my money today. The laundry came too.

That is all ----- say hello to Dad for me.

Love,

P.S. I had to do a fencing match at the Igloo last night, in between halves of the Oregon-Washington basketball game. What a life --- I won the match, but I certainly felt silly out in front of that crowd with my great “athletic powers”.
