December 26, 1932 - Monday

Another holiday. I slept until 11:30. After lunch read until about two thirty when the Kelseys came over. I visited until about 3:30. Then dressed for the party and puppet show. At seven went out to dinner and a play with Bill Earl.

Monday Night

Dear, I am so sorry I didn’t get this letter mailed. At the time when I had planned to finish it I was so rushed that I couldn’t get it done so when I did go out it wasn’t finished so I couldn’t mail it. I try to rationalize but it is the principle of the thing. This is a holiday and it probably wouldn’t have gone out but at least it would have been picked up early tomorrow. Well, it’s done now but we are going out to lunch tomorrow and I shall mail it then.

Mrs. Williams certainly is trying to make up for last week by keeping me entertained this week. She has something planned for every day. Today was a full day. I tried to get caught up on my sleep so I slept until eleven thirty this morning without any effort at all. I never in my life felt like so much dead weight as I did last night when I hit my pillow. As the result of my long rest I have been feeling top notch all day. I went down to a wonderful lunch of what was left over from our Christmas dinner. After lunch I brought Eleanor up to my room and put her in my bed to take her nap. Then I sat down to read my Queen Victoria. I intended to read until about three then dress and finish my letter then go downstairs to the children’s party. The Kelseys, very dear friends of my family and a very interesting family (I’ll tell you about them after the 31st) were invited to the party. They misunderstood and came over at two thirty instead. I went down without changing and visited with them. They had to leave again before the party except the two youngest girls. So I took them up to my room while I changed. Of course I didn’t want to keep them waiting and besides it was getting late so I just jumped into my clothes.  This afternoon the children had a puppet show and they had many guests. It was a very good puppet show and there were about forty guests. Eleanor was very excited and happy. She enjoyed everything and thought the party was a huge success. After the show there was punch and cookies. Mrs. Earl took the two Kelsey girls home and I went with them. When she brought me back to the house her son Bill was here already. I was going out to dinner and a show with him. We went over to Hollywood and had dinner at the Pig ‘n Whistle and then went to El Capitan theatre and saw Billy Burke in “The Marquise” a very beautiful and amusing costume play. Bill is a very generous friend and took me out to accommodate Mrs. Williams. When I see you I will tell you about the Christmas decorations on Hollywood Blvd. It is too hard to describe on paper. I can’t use my hands.

I have had a very nice day but I wish I had gotten a letter off to you. I love you dear, and even tho’ I am being well entertained I don’t forget you for a minute. I keep thinking I must remember it all so that I can tell you about it. One thing about being entertained, it makes the days go a little faster. Three more days, dear.

Love, Ann
