This morning I got up at the early hour of 9:30. After lunch
worked on decorations all afternoon. Tonight from 8 to 9 went to a puppet show at Maryland. Received guests until eleven. Then worked ‘til now. It’s
three-thirty.
Dearest George,
It is two o’clock in the morning on the night before the
night before Christmas and I am powerful sleepy so I guess I will write my
letter tomorrow but I couldn’t go to bed without first saying good night to my
lover. A week from tonight I will be the happiest girl in the world.
Your package came today and it looks very intriguing. I was
very much surprised because after all your talking I almost expected it to be
little. But I didn’t get any letter, which leaves me with the feeling that
something is missing. The reason for the late hour is that Iwas helping Mrs.
Williams finish up ----- O, I’ll tell you about it in the morning. Good night, sweet heart.
Saturday Morn
I have just been down to see if I had any mail but I was
disappointed. I think that nasty old postmaster deserves everyone of those
names I called him the other day and a lot more.
Last night Mrs. Williams and I started working after dinner
and we worked until two o’clock. There was all the decorating to finish and
then we had to take all the outside taping of the package that came in the
mail. That took a lot of time because each package had to be accounted for. You
should see Mrs. Williams’ office. It looks like Santa Clauses workshop. The
place is just filled with gifts. It was a good thing that I happened to be near
the door when your present came. If I hadn’t and it had gone into her office
she would have kept it to put under the tree and I couldn’t have opened it
after midnight Christmas Eve. Mrs. Williams is making plans to keep me
entertained. Sunday night I am going to a play and Thursday afternoon to a tea
and Thursday evening to a symphony concert. Eleanor is up this morning.
Everyone is on their toes with excitement. It’s Christmas Eve.
Saturday Evening
I didn’t get a chance to mail this letter this morning but
we are going into town after supper and I will find a convenient mailbox. I
have been putting cookies on the cookie bush all afternoon. The cookie bush is
one that grows in Raggedy Ann books so of course we must have it. I have
actually been working today. Tonight Mrs. Williams is taking me to the puppet
show. The decorations are finally finished and the house looks very beautiful. We have all been working like a house afire.
After we get back from the puppet show Mrs. Williams expects guests, mothers,
fathers and friends of the children. Eleanor was up today and she looked just
darling. She wears the perkiest little hair ribbons all the time. Boots has
been gone all day. He has been at the vets being primped for the occasion. I
have missed his little pitter patter around the house all day. He is so cute.
Mrs. Williams just brought him back.
It won’t be very long now until I can open that large
mysterious package that is sitting up on my dresser.
I have to get dressed now, dear so I will cut this short.
My best love,
Ann
