September 9, 1932 - Friday

I was on early this morning. They put up the boats yesterday so George and I went for a hike this afternoon. Took pictures. Doro sent my stockings thank goodness. Fun at the Com House tonight. Tears.

George's Letter Home:

Dear Mom,

You certainly have been spending time and money on me, and I confess that my curiosity is all afire to know what this secret purchase is though. Thank you so much for buying all those things for me, Mom.

I have written both Ray Mize and the Grandfolks a nice long letter this evening. I am sorry you must remind me periodically to do these little duties. Do not fear, though, mother, I shall mature one of these days.

You will find some pictures enclosed but do not take some of them too much to heart. Though they may suggest otherwise, I am still the chaste and pure little gent that left you two years ago.

Uncle Willis and Aunt Nan were here, and we had a nice visit. They may have thought me rather stupid, for I was awakened from a sound sleep to go and meet them.

My job as a boson in the Crater Lake Navy ended yesterday. We put all the boats away, and now I am back on my old job again. I was there for a week and a half, though; and I have acquired a real tan for myself. While putting the boats away we succeeded in placing my finger on a rock and dropping a 800 lb. hunk of iron on it. Boy, it is some mess; and my right hand is practically useless. I guess it is something like the thumb Dad ruined while laying the attic floor in our old home. Oh well, things will happen.

That is all for now, Mom. Thank you for the letter, Dad, I enjoyed it very much.

Love, Brother

Jane’s Notes: This letter is hand written and Dad was right handed so his smashed finger couldn’t have been too bad.
