September 27, 1932 - Tuesday

Only one class today. Spent rest of the morning and the afternoon until 4:30 up at the library. Puttered until dinner. Went to Phi Beta meeting afterwards. Then conducted study table and studied.

George's letter home:

Dear Mother,

We have pledged a group of ten very fine boys, and I think they compare very favorably with the boys other houses secured. My new roommate is Bill Schloth from Portland, and we had the hardest time getting him of anybody. The Figis wanted him so badly that they drugged him, took him to Roseburg, and kept him there two days. He was single minded, though; and all the Figis succeeded in doing was to put themselves in a terrible mess with the University. If they are not kicked off the campus, they will at least be put on probation.

My time has been quite well filled. So many things to buy and set in order along with my school duties, that I haven’t rested a minute. I am taking some hard courses this year. Genetic Psychology, advanced Military, Extempore Speaking, Classical Poets, and Modern Governments. They are just as tough as they sound; so I will not be wasting my time.

The curtains look lovely in our dining room, and the radio is just the nicest I have ever known. Our mothers are right there.

Love, Brother
