George's letter home:
Dear Mother,
My foot is much better, but it still hurts a little. I think
it will be alright in a couple of days though.
Last evening Anne and I went to the Coconut Grove to dance.
Before we left, Chuck McCormack and I just had a terrible time around the Lodge
here with Jim Wells and Eddy Field. They were just too full of pep, I guess.
They kept sneaking into our room and upsetting the thing. We locked the room
before we left, but when we returned, the door was wide open. Oh boy, what a mess
that place was. All the furniture was piled up in the center of the floor, and
all the pictures were painted with crazy designs in white paint. It was such a
mess that it took us a whole hour to clean it up. They had their room all
locked up, but we finally got in and then the real fun began. Chuck and I
carried everything in that room down into the basement from the third floor. We
didn’t leave a thing. Clothes, dressers, chairs, desks and everything else was
toted down the stairs and into the basement. That wasn’t all though. We got
water and through all over the room and then opened the end of a pillow and
just scattered all the feathers all over the place. It was sticking to the
curtains, ceilings and every other place in the room. Then we took roll so
toilet paper and just wrapped it all over everything. I have never seen such a
complete job in all my life. It took us two hours, and we didn’t get to bed
until two bells in the morning. I wish you could have seen those two gents
dressing in the cold cellar this morning. The funny part of the whole things
is, that Eddy wasn’t one of the participants who wrecked our room. All his
stuff is in the basement, however, and he is plenty gripped. My – my – my – my
– we certainly do have fun down here.
Tonight, is the Alpha Phi spring dance, and for some strange
reason or another, I have been invited to it.
--------- Strange, don’t you think?
I understand that there are going to be eight Pi Phi’s from
Oregon State at the lake this summer, and I suppose that there will be many
more from other houses over there. Since old man Price’s daughter went to
school there this fall. It looks like the Oregon people will be out of a good
thing in a couple of years. Well, just so I can hang on to mine for about three
more of those little years.
That is all the news at present.
Love, Brother
