May 11, 1932 - Wednesday

Much excitement around here this evening.  Janet and John announced their engagement. It was all very beautiful. The Phi Delts came over dance later. This afternoon after my Technique class I came home and George came over to see me. Then came over this evening to see them.

George's letter home:

Dear Mother,

I am glad that you enjoyed yourself here; I know that it certainly was a treat for me to be able to do something for you for a change.

Since your departure, I have been working myself to death on my monthly reports. I had a couple of mistakes in the books, and they kept me up until one thirty last night finding them. They are all found now, so I can rest in peace for another month. I am certainly earning my $35 a month.

The flavoring that was used in the cocktail is Sherry Wine flavoring. You can get it at any of the stores in any flavor you want. It comes in brandy, whiskey and any old thing. I believe that it is made by the Cresta Blanca people.

Here are a list of my expenses for the month that must be paid real soon:

House Bill                               $51.10
Floral bill                                $  2.00
Laundry Bill                           $  3.03
Owe Trimm                            $  1.00
Owe Haberlach                      $  1.00
Owe McCormack                   $     .50
Laundry                                 $     .70
            Total                           $59.33
Subtract Wages         $35.00
            Money Needed          $24.33

That doesn’t leave me anything for spending money, but I can get along for awhile on my good looks. I have done it many times before, so it won’t hurt me again.

There isn’t much news, but maybe a little later in the week, I will be able to have something interesting to tell you.

Love, Brother
