July 9, 1931 - Thursday

It was just and average house and I was on duty this afternoon. It was an uninteresting average afternoon too. But after the program, went to dance with Tom again, swell time!

George's letter home written on Crater Lake stationary. It says the season is July 1st to September 20th

Dear Mother,

This is my first night here and I like it very much. Just an old garbage man from away back – that’s your son. The boy on the truck with me is very congenial; his name is Lewis Long.

I have a tent by myself and we have clean sheets every Thursday; not bad but there is no laundry for this kid or another kid around this place for that matter unless he does it himself.

These are the things I need mother. That flannel shirt, my shaving lotion, those long socks for my boots, and any other thing you think I might need.

There is a black leather folder on my close closet shelf and in this folder is a letter from the insurance company that I took out a policy for the Lodge. It states how much is due them from me and when it is due. I won’t get paid in time to take care of it myself, I am afraid. They are paying me sixty-five dollars a month and board. They cut everyone’s wage this year.

I guess that is all for now.

Love George
