July 10, 1931 - Friday

We were going for a long walk today but I got off later than I expected and so we just went part way down the trail to the lake. I read and wrote letters after dinner.

George's letter home:

Dear Mother,

I guess that I must bother you for a few more things: White sleeveless sweater, pairs of substantial, leather, working gloves, fountain pen, green tie, a host of stamps, and lots of letters from home.

Things are great here; the people are all, without an exception, my type. They are all so friendly and easy to know.

This weather is just about the best thing on earth too; I am getting all tanned up and a little burned too.

There is a program and a dance here every night. Many of the kids are from the University Music School and different ones sing every night. Boy it is great and I surely am going to do my work right; so I may return next year again.

As soon as I am paid; I will send you twenty-six dollars to replace that insurance money.

Say hello to dad and thank him again for bringing me up here.

Love, Brother

P.S. Forward any mail I might get, please. GLH

Jane's Notes: These letters are written on letterhead with Crater Lake Lodge. It is on the front of a folded brochure with “America’s Scenic Wonderland” and pictures of places in BC Canada, Washington, Oregon and California. The back says “See the Pacific Coast – America’s Wonderland Where National Parks Abound”.
