July 20, 1932 - Wednesday

I wrote to my family this morning and talked to George. At four I went for a walk with Hike and tonight George and I played old folk and sat in front of the fire while he was on duty. To bed early.

George's letter home:

Dear Mother,

I am alright now again, and I hope I haven’t caused you any anxiety. Things are all cleared up now, and I feel like a million.

Mrs. Ott, who had “just visited my Aunt Liddy” was here the other day. She is a trained nurse, a graduate from some nursing school. She had just arrived from Seattle where she had helped someone’s brother-in-law get a new baby over the rough spots. Her husband is dead. She has known my “Aunt Liddy and my mother since they were little tots,” etc. etc. I have never seen nor heard of the woman before, but she had been instructed to look up “Liddy’s nephew who had a position at Crater Lake.” She got ahold of me all right; and after introducing me to seven other old maids, she talked my two arms off until I returned to work. What a gal! What a gal!

Some people from the islands blew in on Ann last evening, and she was thrilled to death. Her eyes just danced with delight, and her cheeks were red with excitement. I surely wish she could see her family. The poor little girl gets so homesick and blue, that it is nearly impossible to cheer her up.

Tell Dad I received my glasses, and I thank him very much for them. When you have time, I wish you would send my white sweater with the sleeves on to me.

That is all for now; I hope you enjoy your trip to Bend. Give my Grandfolks lots of attention for me; it seems that I am unable to do that anymore.

Love, Brother

Jane's Notes: I wondered about the reference in yesterday's diary entry "Excitement". Must have been the visitors from the Philippines that George mentions in his letter. No reference in the diary.
