As usual we didn’t have many rooms and I had to mend sheets
in the afternoon until three. I wrote a letter this afternoon. Took walk with
George between dinner and six-thirty then went on duty.

Ann's letter to Mrs. Hibbard:
Dear Mrs. Hibbard,
When I got to Medford I had intended to write to you but I
was so sleepy from my early raising that I tumbled right into bed. I was hot
and tired from the trip too altho’ I wasn’t as tired as I expected to be from
what George said. I sat by a nice little old lady that was out on a jaunt all
by herself. She had come all the way from Los Angeles and had been up in Canada
and was on the way home. She wasn’t even visiting friends, she was just on a
holiday. She reminded me of a girl that was on her first trip alone. She was
getting such a kick out of everything. We made friends before we got to Eugene
so we got out and had lunch together and after that we always got off the bus
together.
It was awfully hot when we first got up here. It was
uncomfortable sleeping at night but last night it got cold and I was certainly
glad. I love it when it’s cold. It has been all day today. It is so uncomfortable
to work when it is so warm. We haven’t had much to do yet because there haven’t
been many people in the lodge but I expect thy will be arriving today, tomorrow,
and the next to celebrate Mr. Hibbard’s birthday. I have my old job chambermaid
again.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate staying with you
while I was in Portland. It means so much to be in a home again. I miss mine so
much.
Love, Ann
