November 6, 1931 - Friday

I was up very late last night on important chapter business so I cut my eight o’clock this morning. After supper tonight I slept an hour before the dance. George sent me an orchid !!! Had best time in my life.

George's letter home:

Dear Mom,

It will be pretty lonesome for you when Dad leaves; but he probably won’t have to make that trip very often.

We went to the Delta Gamma house for dessert Wednesday and we had the Kappas down last night. Whenever we do anything with the Kappas, I always have a good time. I got an invitation to their pledge dance too; that makes two now because I am going with Ann to the Alpha Phi pledge dance.

No, I am not taking a speech course, although I need it very much. If I could be sure of staying in school for six year, I wouldn’t enter law school next year; but I would take a whole lot of good courses including speech. Three years of pre-law is what one should really have, but two will do when you aren’t sure how long you can remain. Things will work out someway; I am fortunate now in that it doesn’t bother me to talk before audiences.

I know my good handkerchiefs from my others alright, but I ran out of them so was forced to use my better.

That is all for now, don’t work too hard in your cleaning establishment.

Love, Brother

P.S. I left my Skull & Dagger pin sticking on that old crinoline covered chair in the guest room.
