Before my ten o’clock I studied about an hour at the library
with George. After lunch I wrote home. Then at three o’clock I went up again to
study for about an hour and a half. After supper I went up again.

George's letter home:
Dear Mom,
I haven’t written for so long that I don’t know where to
begin. Ann and I went to the sophomore informal this Tuesday and just had a
great old time together. The dance was all decorated like a scene in the north;
there was all the snow; the igloos and everything that goes to make the thing
realistic. Wednesday we went up the McKenzie River for a picnic. There were
eight of us in the party, and we roasted weenies and marshmallows until we
couldn’t hold anything more if we tried.
This weekend is homecoming and there will be about
twenty-five alumni down to the lodge. I suppose that means that I will have to
sleep on the couch again, but I don’t mind for a night or so. I surely hope
that we beat this outfit from Corvallis. They came over here earlier in the
week and just smeared our campus with orange paint. They didn’t stop at the
campus either; they dobbed all the houses up too. I think that our place was
about the only one that escaped the deluge.
I just sent my laundry today; it will be quite large because
it is two weeks since I have sent it home to you. I am sorry mother, but I
didn’t realize that you would be going to Bend and would not have a washing
machine. I shall try to remember those things hereafter.
That is about all there is to say right now. I am sadly in
need of some razor blades, some toothpaste, and some fillers for my toothbrush.
Say hello to the grandfolks and Dad for me.
Love, Brother
