October 6, 1931 - Tuesday

I only had one class today and I was going to study all day but my intentions were good and that’s all. I saw George in the library this morning and then he came over in the afternoon. Junior class meeting tonight then a little studying.

George's Letter Home

Dear Mom,

We arrived here about eight thirty, Sunday night after a nice ride down here. Gee, it was snug in Eddie’s little car. The side curtains were up, and we had a great big robe over us. I slept most of the way down; the weekend was apparently a little too strenuous for me.

My trench coat arrived today, and I like it very much. It fits fine, and I know it will come in very handy this winter and spring. I mailed my laundry home too. There is quite a lot and I am sorry about it. There is two weeks wash there. So maybe it won’t be so bad after all.

School is coming fine now, and I am spending all my time with my books. This is the term that I redeem my little self. The grading system has been changed this year to correspond to the Oregon State system. They grade, A,B,C,D, and F or flunk. I don’t know what this means in points, but my understanding is that the point system will be lower.

Ann is going to Seattle this weekend and I surely wish I could go. It probably won’t do me any harm to deprive myself once in awhile though. You and Dad gave me such a wonderful weekend, that I am going to be quite content.

I am the new rushing chairman now; so I will have plenty to keep me busy for some time this year.

That’s all ------

Lots of love,

Brother
