March 28, 1933 - Tuesday

I had my first class today. It was the only one, an 8 o’clock. George and I went downtown after it. I read Modern Comedy most of the afternoon. George came over this evening. He feels rotten. Worry.

George's letter home:

Dear Family,

Here I am after my delightful vacation at home. The old University is just the same; lots of rain and nothing doing.

Bill Weeks didn’t make his grades, and they decided to give him to me as a roommate. He certainly is a fine boy, and I hope I will be able to help him.

I got them to extend the payment of my fees for thirty days. The bank should be reopened by that time, don’t you think?

The grade lists were released today, and the Chi Psi Lodge tops the list again. It is pretty nice to belong to a group that is really accomplishing something.

This is only the second day of school and Frank Billington has pledged Fiji already. He didn’t even have an opportunity to visit us or anyone else, for that matter. The boy must be entirely different from my conception of him, if he can be happy there. Well, it is his funeral; I hope he will be happy.

When you write, tell me how the grape juice business is faring. I like to know how things are at home; there is really no need of shielding me from the world any longer.

Lots of love; I had a wonderful time at home.

Brother
