I have been studying all day on this darn stuff. Ancient
History. I read the book this morning
and took all afternoon to write notes. George came over a little while after supper
and tonight, this AM, I’ve studied until 1.

George's letter home:
Dear Mother,
I think that if you come down here on Tuesday, the
fourteenth, I will be able to go home with you. It isn’t the books that will
keep me; I have to close the house up for the summer --- have the water turned
off, the gas, the electricity, get everything of value down in the safety
deposit box, etc. If I hurry, I think I will be done by the time you arrive.
Don’t come until about three, however, because I will be certain to be through
by then. Anne will wait and come up with us. If I thought that crowd of women
could close my books for me, I would be up there this evening. As it is, I must
close them on the tenth, a very inconvenient time. I have an examination (my
last, thank goodness) on that morning, and after that I must come home and
start on those lousy books. I will probably get through sometime in the early
morning. However, I shall get thirty-five dollars for the noble service.
All of the boys that finished their exams today, were thrown
into the mill race. The pride and joy of Sheridan* was one of those fortunate
ones. Boy, I wish my exams were over.
There isn’t much news, mother. I just wanted to tell you of
my plans; so you could act accordingly. I doubt if I will have time to write
you anymore. If I find it necessary to get in touch with you, I will phone you.
Give mine father a cheery hello and tell him that I hope he
got my letter. I don’t know if I got it off in time to catch him or not.
Love, Brother
