August 11, 1931 - Tuesday

We were finished before noon today. At about two fifteen I went for a walk with George. We sat and talked on cliff overlooking the lake. After dinner bathed, wrote home, read and to bed at nine!

George's letter home:

Dear Mom,

Thank you for my shoe money; only don’t attempt to send checks up here. They just won’t cash any. Jean had the money though, and he cashed if for me. My shoes look fine. I doubt if they ever wear out now.

Mr. Price asked Jean, Lewis, Tom and I to stay up here until the twelfth of September. That made me feel good because he only asks those who are doing this work well. We split wood for the cafeteria too and we have enough to last the month out. Three seven foot piles about twenty feet long of nice split wood. Boy, that surely is a lot of work. We strip our shirts off every morning and tear into it.

The weather is warmer again, but it will turn cold before long again. I have lots of covers, and I have kept quite warm so far.

Mom in your next letter, I wish you would copy all the Chi Psi presidents names down who live in the Philippines. They will be in my manual I guess. I just want to see if Ann Powell knows any of them.

That’s all now. Jean and I are going hiking in a little while and I have one more letter to write yet. Maybe I should change my underwear more often. This is a very windy and dusty country. Say hello to Dad, and tell him that I am too powerful and strong for him now.

Love, Brother
