February 2, 1931 – Monday

Awful mid-term in French! Mid-terms have started in earnest. Read for a while after lunch. Quiz in clogging. Went downtown with Doro while she got a formal. We had model chapter meeting!

Dear Mrs. Hibbard,

It seems that I am not in favor in the Hibbard family. That is something that I cannot afford to have happen; so I am taking this means of trying to straighten things out.

When I left here to go to Portland for the swimming meet, initiation was still in full sway. When I got into Portland, mother said that I had better call you and tell you about George. I could have done it because I did have a little time before the meet, but of course I didn’t know just how things had come off down here, and then I said that as long as initiation was over that George had probably phoned. I can remember that the first thing that I did after we were all thru was to put in a call to my folks to tell them about it.

When I got back here to school, I told George that you were probably very glad to here that it was all over. He answered that he hadn’t been able to get his call thru and was still trying. I realized then that I should have called.

Anyway I am sorry, and I hope that you will forgive a thoughtless kid.

Not to change the subject, but I want to say again that both you and Mr. Hibbard are always welcome visitors at the Lodge at any time.

Sincerely yours,

Jim Trains
